My Favorite Christmas Tree

Each year, the day after Thanksgiving, our family bundles up, loads up a saw, and sets out to find our family Christmas tree for the year. We have our favorite tree farm that we go to each year, which gives us what feels like a million and one choices, and there is WAY too much back and forth about which tree is the perfect one. Each person has their own ideas of what they want. Some like long needles, while others of us like the short ones. A few of us like a sparse tree so there is plenty of room to hang ornaments, and others prefer a full tree.

This particular year, I had received some vintage glass ornaments that I was really excited to put up. But we often have friends over, and some of them still have young kids. So putting glass ornaments in my living room didn’t seem like a great option. So I decided to cut my own 4 1/2 ft. tree that I could put in my room for my vintage ornaments. That tree ended up being my favorite tree we’ve ever had!

The tree I ended up selecting was a Fraser fir. Fraser firs have short, soft needles and last a bit longer than other species. The best part is they don’t stick in your feet when you walk on them! Also, the spacing of the branches is perfect and a great option for my vintage ornaments.

I decided to stay true to the vintage feel of the glass bulbs, so I only used while lights and was very generous with silver tinsel. I also had a paper Advent calendar that I thrifted and some old books. I used a cream color circular tablecloth as the tree skirt. Never underestimate the uses of a tablecloth! I couldn’t have been happier with how it turned out.

Since then, I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect artificial Fraser Fir tree, and I’ve found a few great options. I love the look of the pencil tree to make even the smallest corners feel festive. Shorter trees are another great option for small spaces.
